This item is for an USA-made Elgin Sloppy Stage-3 hydraulic roller camshaft for GM Gen III and IV LS-series V-8 engines. P/N E-1840-P. This camshaft has 3-bolt camshaft sprocket mounting and rear integral LS1/LS6 camshaft sensor pickup. This cam cannot be used with AFM or VVT systems.
We know there are cheaper performance LS cams available. Does anyone know the quality of these mostly Chinese camshafts? Most of these import camshafts are "cast" cams; meaning the cam is formed in a sand mold (much like the manufacturing process for low lift flat tappet cams.) At times, these cast cores have jagged, rough edges around the lobes and are prone to manufacturing imperfections.
These Elgin cams are 100% USA-made from BILLET steel cores and precision machined. These billet steel cams can handle much more spring pressure and abuse than a typical cast camshaft.
