I am an avid auto addict with a small shop in the Dallas,TX, area, specializing in German cars of BMW, Audi, Mercedes, and Porsche makesand models. I own an extensive personal collection of vehicles that I have maintainedmyself over the years, picking up knowledge from my dad and grandpa, who wereboth German car techs and nerds. The R129 is one of my favorite timeless German classics (I own2), but as everything in this world, it's not perfect. The hydraulic tops inthese cars, while way ahead of their time in terms of hydraulic and mechanicalengineering, did not utilize superior materials in their construction, simplybecause modern materials didn't exist 20 years ago. The seal material used inthe cylinders decays with time, regardless of mileage or use. I saw cars with200k miles and 26k miles have the same problem: a leaking hydraulic top. Hencewhy I decided to take matters into my own hands. I designed my own dual lipseals and commissioned a German seal manufacturer to make then out of modern Viton rubber, being extra corrosion resistant while simultaneously remainingflexible to avoid pinching and deteriorating inside the cylinders.
The listing here gets you a full rebuild of all shaft seals on all11-12 cylinders (early model years had 12, later ones 11), polishing of the chrome shafts, honing the inside of the cylinder body, and return shippingback to your address. The cars covered include all models SL280, SL300, SL320, SL500, SL600, SL60, SL73 years1989-2002. You send in your cylinders to me, I rebuild them, and send them back to you on my dime.
