Common question asked: “How do I know that this is the best Titanium Grade 5 and not low-cost Grade 2?” Gr 2 Titanium is pure Titanium (99% of Ti) and it does not get black by oxidation. It takes Vapor Deposition process to make Gr2 Ti black. Gr5 Ti can be coated black by Vapor Deposition just as good as Gr2 so it makes it impossible to tell if tell what you are buying: Gr2 or Gr5. Most of black Titanium lug nut coated by Vapor Deposition are made out of Gr2. I oxidize my Titanium. Only Gr5 Ti can be oxidized because Gr5 Ti contains Aluminum, Vanadium and Iron. If Titanium is oxidized black as it is on my items it means that I sale high strength Gr5, not low cost Gr2. Oxidized Titanium black color is easy to identify because it is not pure black (has some green in it) and not as uniform as from Vapor Deposition on Gr2. See pictures on my black Titanium listings.
