Vintage 1970s / Early 1980s 2-Stroke Muffler / Silencer – Trials Motorcycle or Snowmobile – Exact Application Unknown
This is an original vintage steel 2-stroke exhaust silencer/muffler that I have been unable to positively identify.
Based on the construction, size and mounting arrangement, I believe this is most likely from a 1970s to early 1980s 2-stroke application. It may be from a vintage trials, enduro, motocross or trail motorcycle, or possibly a vintage snowmobile.
POSSIBLE MOTORCYCLE APPLICATIONS TO COMPARE:
Montesa Cota or Cappra, Bultaco, Ossa, CZ, Husqvarna, Yamaha TY/DT/MX, Suzuki RL/TS/TM, Kawasaki KT/KE/KX, Hodaka, or another European or Japanese 2-stroke.
POSSIBLE SNOWMOBILE APPLICATIONS TO COMPARE:
Arctic Cat, Ski-Doo/Bombardier, Moto-Ski, Polaris, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Scorpion or other 1970s/early-1980s 2-stroke snowmobile.
IMPORTANT: These names are provided ONLY as possible applications and identification/search references. I am NOT claiming this silencer fits any particular make, model or year. Buyer must identify the part and determine fitment from the pictures and measurements before purchasing.
Measurements and identifying features:
* Approximately 12-1/2 to 13 inches overall length
* Approximately 8-1/4 inches from the end of the inlet spigot to the center of the mounting eye
* Inlet/male spigot approximately 1-1/16 inch / 27 mm
* Male slip-fit inlet — the silencer inlet is designed to slide inside the mating exhaust pipe
* Factory raised stop/ridge around the inlet spigot
* Large round welded mounting eye/bushing
* Appears configured for a left-side motorcycle installation if it is indeed a motorcycle part
* Distinctive body with a factory-flat inner/back side and rounded outer side
* Welded steel construction
* No obvious removable/repackable end cap
* Small exhaust outlet/baffle in rear of silencer
This is a used vintage part showing age and use, including surface rust, scratches, paint wear, discoloration, carbon/oil residue and general cosmetic wear. It has not been restored.
Please look closely at ALL PHOTOS. The shape of the body, large mounting eye, male inlet with raised stop, flat backside and measurements should be useful for identifying the original application.
