Extensive vintage experimental aircraft project/collection consisting of original Long-EZ construction documentation, plans, full-size templates/patterns, technical reference material, and numerous actual aircraft/project components.
The entire collection was acquired together from a storage unit associated with an engineer with a U.S. Air Force background. Additional personal documentation, photographs, diplomas, insignia/emblems and other materials were found with the collection supporting its provenance; however, personal documents and identifying information will not be publicly displayed or included in the listing for privacy reasons. Serious buyers may contact me for additional information regarding the history of the collection.
The documentation is extensive and consists of a very large quantity of pages, drawings, construction notes, diagrams and templates. Among the material is a Long-EZ Plans set marked Section I, #109, along with numerous technical drawings and full-size construction patterns. Some of the large patterns were originally assembled from multiple sheets joined together to create full-size templates for fabrication of aircraft components.
The technical material includes detailed drawings and information relating to aircraft construction, composite/fiberglass fabrication, control surfaces, structural components, mechanical assemblies, landing gear and other systems. There are also handwritten construction notes and working drawings that appear to have been actively used during the project.
Physical aircraft/project components included include:
- Large composite/fiberglass aircraft structure/body section shown in the photographs.
- Large aerodynamic/control surface.
- Additional long movable/control-surface components.
- Large composite/fiberglass main landing-gear bow/assembly.
- Two main aircraft wheels.
- Main-wheel brake assemblies.
- Separate tail/nose-style wheel and associated landing-gear assembly with spring/shock component.
- Landing-gear related rods/linkages and mounting hardware.
- Additional structural and composite aircraft components shown in the photographs.
- Various smaller associated aircraft/project parts and hardware.
Of particular interest, the main wheel/brake components retain their original identification markings from Cleveland Wheels & Brakes, Division of Van Sickle Industries, Avon, Ohio. The visible identification plate is marked Model 30-9 and MFG 9-76, indicating a manufacturing date of September 1976.
The collection appears to represent a substantial portion of a vintage Long-EZ / experimental composite aircraft construction project, rather than a random assortment of aviation parts. The plans, full-size patterns, construction documentation and physical components were all recovered together.
This is an unusual collection that may be of interest to a Long-EZ owner or builder, experimental-aircraft restorer, aviation historian, museum, collector, composite-aircraft specialist, or someone looking for original period construction material and components.
The parts and documentation are being offered in their current, as-found condition. The paper documentation shows age, storage wear, discoloration, folds, tape repairs and other normal signs of having been used as working construction material. The aircraft components likewise show age, storage wear, scratches, oxidation/corrosion in some areas and evidence of previous installation/use.
IMPORTANT: I am not representing any of these components as inspected, certified, airworthy or currently approved for installation on a flying aircraft. Their service history and airworthiness have not been independently verified. Any component intended for aircraft use must be inspected and evaluated by a properly qualified aviation professional before installation or flight.
This is being offered primarily as a vintage experimental aircraft project / restoration / historical collection, and the photographs form an important part of the description.
I have additional photographs and information available for serious interested buyers.
I would prefer to sell the complete collection together, including the aircraft components, landing gear, wheels/brakes, plans, templates and associated technical documentation.
Serious inquiries only.
