The headrest speakers installinto special boxes that mount into the seats. Many Miata's came without the speakers or boxes. Designed and custom manufactured by us specificallyfor the 90-97 Mazda Miata, thesepatent-pending, brand new,high-fidelity music quality Millennium-5 speakers are the exact size of the originals. The Millennium-5's have numerous improvements over the factory speakers including:

• Much larger magnets than the original factory speakers yet still fit the oem speaker boxes perfectly. TheMillennium-5's are rated to handle a larger continuous (not peak) 10-watts, 20-watts RMS of power each compared to the oem speaker's 5-watts giving MAXIMUM volume (see picture right).

• Polymer impregnated cones. This treatment helps resist moisture - important in a convertible (we've all been caught in the rain a few times!). The added stiffness also improves transient response and performance.

• Butyl rubber surround. Most of the oem headrest speakers failed because the paper or foam surrounds rotted away. With the Millennium-5's, the papersurround has been replaced with a high-compliance butyl rubber surround. This not only makes them moisture resistant, but also greatly increases the low-end frequency response. The Millennium-5's have a warm, neutral characteristic that can be listened to for hours without fatigue.

• Included Crossover/Blocking Capacitors. These not only help protect the speakers from damage, but they allow maximum frequency response is an impressive 100 – 14,000 Hz. The impedance is 8 ohms which means these will work safely in any wiring combination you might want in your Miata with any radio – serial or parallel.
