- Vehicle Condition: Park on a level surface, engage the parking brake and secure the wheels, disconnect the negative battery terminal (power off required for electronic system protection on some models)
- Part Inspection: Verify the new control arm model matches, check for no damage to ball joints and bushings, ensure all accompanying bolts and nuts are complete and free of rust
Old Part Removal - Lift the vehicle with a jack and secure it with safety stands (never rely solely on the jack)
- Remove the wheel and disconnect the control arm mounting bolts from the steering knuckle and frame/subframe
- Separate the ball joint from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator and remove the old control arm
New Part Installation Steps - Clean the mounting surfaces (frame and steering knuckle connection points), remove rust and debris, and apply a thin layer of rust inhibitor
- Position the new control arm in place and hand-tighten the frame/subframe mounting bolts (do not fully torque yet)
- Install the ball joint to the steering knuckle, hand-tighten the ball joint nut to ensure full seating of the ball joint
- Install remaining mounting bolts per vehicle specifications, hand-tighten all bolts initially (to prevent misalignment)
- Lower the jack to place the wheel on the ground, ensuring the vehicle is in a level loaded state
- Torque all bolts sequentially to manufacturer specifications using a torque wrench (Reference Values: Ball joint nut 45-65N·m, frame-end bolts 80-120N·m; always follow vehicle manual for exact values)
- Check control arm clearance: Ball joint should rotate smoothly, bushings must not be twisted, and no interference should Inspection & Debugging
- Install the wheel and torque the wheel hub bolts to specifications
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal, start the vehicle, and check for smooth steering and no abnormal noises
- Four-wheel alignment is recommended (calibrate wheel toe and camber angles after control arm replacement to prevent uneven tire wear)
Safety Precautions - Use safety stands throughout the process; never perform under-vehicle work without proper support
- Torque all bolts to specified values; over-tightening or under-tightening is prohibited
- Conduct a test drive after installation to confirm no pulling or abnormal noises; stop immediately to inspect if issues arise
