Many 6.0L Powerstroke owners have experienced the somewhat common issue of coolant degas bottle failure. Leaking oil coolers and cracked cylinder heads often contaminate the cooling system with engine oil or diesel fuel causing the reservoir to soften and swell - often to the point that the cap cannot even be reinstalled. Because the factory tank is an integral part of the pressurized cooling system, rupture of the tank will cause catastrophic coolant loss, engine overheating, and potentially a towing bill.
