The Audi TT progressed from the design study shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1995 to the production version in around three years. A compact car with distinctive, clearly drawn lines, it stands for Audi design in its quintessential form. If you look closely, you will see that the final version has actually gained something over the show version. Numerous awards from specialist magazines and their readers and high levels of demand are an impressive demonstration of this Audi sports car's popularity since its launch in September 1998.

The most powerful Audi TT Coupé quattro provides particularly brisk performance. Its four-cylinder engine fitted with two intercoolers and a larger turbocharger is good for a power output of 225 hp and propels the TT up to a top speed of 150 mph. Acceleration and flexibility benefit from an ample 207 lb-ft of torque between 2,200 and 5,500 rpm. This sports car with permanent four-wheel drive sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds. Its compact six-speed gearbox transmits power to the front and rear wheels via a multi-plate wet clutch with its own hydraulic actuating circuit and dedicated electronic control unit; this is the heart of the four-wheel drive system in the Audi TT.

Thanks to its sophisticated sports suspension, with McPherson struts at the front and double wishbones with trailing arms at the rear, the Audi TT Coupé quattro offers optimum vehicle dynamics and reassuring safety margins.

The brake system, with four large discs, ABS and electronic braking-pressure distribution (EBD), is also designed for sporting performance. When fitted with the turbocharged engine, the TT has ventilated brake discs at the rear as well as at the front. In conjunction with front-wheel drive, a traction control system (ASR) is fitted as standard to maintain forward progress in difficult conditions.

225/45 ZR 17 tyres on the 165 kW (225 bhp) TT quattro mounted on exclusive 7.5J x 17 alloy wheels ensure a dramatic appearance and also reliable road grip for both versions.

As you would expect from Audi, the new coupé has an exemplary package of safety features. This includes two front airbags and pyrotechnic seatbelt pre-tensioners for the front seats. The Audi TT incorporates the new head/thorax airbags in the front seat backs. They protect the upper body and head in a side impact. This sports car meets the requirements of the future European frontal-impact standard and the side-impact requirements of 96/27/EU. The body structure, with its additional transverse support for the door pillars in the form of a tubular steel construction at the B cross-members and its large-volume sill sections, is particularly rigid.

The functional interior, designed to suit the car's fundamental concept perfectly, matches the styling of this 4.04 m long, 1.86 m wide and 1.35 m high 2+2-seater. Stylish details, such as elegant yet practical instruments, many aluminium elements and sports seats with leather-covered sides and Alcantara central panels, harmonise with the clear-cut lines of the exterior.

Thanks to its smooth surfaces, the luggage space of the Audi TT Coupé is highly practical. The centrally split rear seat back can be folded down partially or completely, making the luggage compartment up to twice as large when required - without restricting the position of the front seats, a superior solution compared with the car's competitors.
