Important Technical Information
XDP notes that a starter can draw up to 500 amps, depending on operating conditions. Because of this high current demand, the battery, cables, terminals, and other starting-system components should be inspected and serviced regularly. XDP also recommends that voltage measured at the starter during cranking remain above 11V DC. A starter heat shield is not required, but XDP considers one a good option for additional heat protection.
