This is a REPRODUCTION Ford Mustang SPACE SAVER SPARE Tire Inflator, this is just for a display bottle, can not be used but is very close too the originals. Like the originals the tag is on cardboard that gives it the textured look and some slight imperfections just like the originals. Take a look at the photos, they never lay out perfect, and sometimes have a hard time sticking. Not a problem once they are in the bracket. But please look at the photos.
This is not a real inflator and cannot be used as such (nozzle is different). In fact original inflators cannot be refilled either. They were made to be disposable.
Inflators were first introduced in the 1968 Mustang and were used to inflate space saver spare tires. To save space in the cramped trunk area, it was an option in Mustangs and Cougars to get the space saver spare without air in them.
Original canisters contained a fluorocarbon propellant that inflated the space saver spare tire enough to get you to a service center for repair. Inflators were designed as a one-time , single-use disposable item that was to be discarded after use. A new bottle was to be purchased from your Ford dealer as a replacement.
This reproduction canister cannot be filled and cannot be used as such. This is for show only. The nozzle end is slightly different but when mounted in the trunk is usually located toward the quarter out of the way. Most important! The bottle is the correct red color and correct decal with part number.
