Improve Your Camaro or Nova’s Handling and Looks with a Bolt-On Control Arm Upgrade

Your first gen Camaro/Firebird and third/fourth gen Nova utilize the same bolt-in front subframe assembly. This production piece uses traditional stamped steel upper and lower control arms fitted with a coil spring and a shock absorber for dampening. These pieces provided a fairly decent ride 50 plus years ago on bias-ply tires. However, today’s world is vastly different. We want our muscle cars to handle, fit big disc brakes, and wide sticky rubber. These stock stamped steel control arms can literally flex and fail under the cornering and braking forces applied to them, especially in a track environment. The last thing any enthusiast wants is a part failure that could potentially cause damage to their pride and joy (or worse, cause injuries). Updating your GM pony car with Speedway Motors’ beefy Camaro tubular control arms strengthens and enhances your muscle car’s ride while providing 1-1/2-inch to 2-inch drop in front ride height.

Stamped Versus Tubular, The Benefits of Our Control Arms Are Obvious

As we stated earlier, a stamped steel control arm invites lots of sloppiness into your suspension due to flexing and twisting. While a stamping is indeed stronger than a flat sheet of metal, tubing is stronger still. So, when creating control arms from steel tubing you greatly increase the rigidity of the product, eliminating that slop from twisting and flexing. What does that mean for you behind the wheel? When it comes to tubular control arms vs stock you dive into a corner on our tubular control arms your vehicle will go where you point it to. Getting down on that brake pedal for some extreme braking? Even your brakes will perform better since your control arms aren’t flexing under that hard braking input.

These are the best tubular control arms Camaro and Nova owners will find and feature a robust 1-5/8-inch diameter tubing for the lower arms and 1-1/8-inch tubing for the uppers, both finished in a show-quality gloss black powder coat. Wall thickness of our tubular steel control arms is .156-inch on the lowers and .125-inch on the uppers. Due to the thickness and material diameters these control arms do weigh more than the stock stamped control arms, but the small trade off in unsprung weight for the vast increase in strength makes it worth the small weight penalty.

We have fitted greasable Delrin bushings and OE-spec ball joints to our tubular A arms with easy access grease fittings to make maintenance a breeze. Polyurethane bump stops are included for both upper and lower arm assemblies and these control arms are compatible with stock-style shock absorbers or can be used with aftermarket coilover shocks. Fitting coilover shocks requires removal of the OE-style shock mounting nuts that are welded to the lower control arm spring pocket. We also recommend our to ensure the coilover shock is properly supported in the Speedway Camaro control arms.

A Direct Bolt-In Solution That Is Easy to Install

Our tubular lower control arm bolts into place using your original control arm’s mounting hardware. If your fasteners have seen better days or went missing don’t worry, we offer a and to keep your project from grinding to a halt. We designed these lower arms to accept your stock sway bar end links, so there is no need to replace your sway bar or end links just to fit these control arms.

Due to the design of our tubular lower control arms, we highly recommend upgrading to , as the drum brake backing plate interferes with the lower control arm and will require major surgery to retain your factory drum brakes up front. Lastly, we revised the spring pocket location to allow a lowered ride height of approximately 1-1/2 to 2-inches without introducing ride harshness of a lowering spring.

The tubular upper arm in our kit features 4 degrees of positive caster with the included caster keys installed with the mounting holes towards the rear of the car. Additional caster can be dialed in by flipping the caster keys so that the mounting holes are towards the front of the car. A direct bolt-in solution, we offer a replacement if your original fasteners should be damaged or have become lost. We also offer a nice for your upper control arms if your old shims are damaged or you need additional shims to set your alignment to your preferred specifications.

What more could you ask for from a set of bolt-on Speedway tubular control arms like these? Your muscle car gains increased handling, lower ride height, performance bushings with minimal deflection, and more, all without the cost of upgrading to an aftermarket subframe and the major work that entails.

Not sure it lowered my Ventura much but great quality A arms Rated by Colgad on March 13, 2021

Summary: Still too high even with ridetech lowing springs, thinking I need 2" drop spindles. I did an all aluminum LS swap and maybe that's why it's still high. It rides so that the wheel well is still 1"+ above the tire.
