To save weight on the GT350R, Shelby removed the hood latches, grille bars, Mustang badges, radio, exhaust system, c-pillar air vents (which were covered with aluminum), sound deadening material, back light and the defroster. A fiberglass front apron was added to the car along with an aluminum panel that replaced the rear bumper. The side and rear window were also replaced with plexiglass.
