The HAMANN Laguna Seca II was developed as jubilee car on occasion of the 15th anniversary of HAMANN Motorsport. It is hand-made to order for a retail price of 500 000 DM. The choice of name is coming from the 1988 HAMANN Laguna Seca. At that time the high performance car based on the M3 of the E 30 model range set new standards for the tuning of BMW cars with its 410 hp / 302 kW 3.5 litre six-cylinder turbo engine. It was the first street-legal BMW to break through the magic 300 km/h barrier.
The HAMANN Laguna Seca II is manufactured based on a reinforced M3 bodyshell and demonstrates how a high performance street car based on a BMW can look like in the 21st century. The HAMANN gullwing design stands out against conventional constructions by its innovative design. The doors swing up towards the top on an outboard stainless steel hinge fixed above the outside mirrors and stay in position supported by special gas dampers.
In addition HAMANN modifies the bodywork with sporty bodystyling components from the HAMANN tuning range for the current M3. The front of the Laguna Seca II is made more spectacular by fitting the HAMANN COMPETITION front spoiler edge, the HAMANN masks for the standard fog-lights and the HAMANN headlight covers. The sides of the coupe are upgraded with HAMANN side skirts. To reach an optimal aerodynamic balance HAMANN furnishes the coupe with the HAMANN roof spoiler, the HAMANN COMPETITION rear wing with adjustable center-piece and the HAMANN diffuser for the rear apron. Maximum downforce on front and rear axle is essentially important on this car since the road performances of the HAMANN Laguna Seca II are on an extremely high level. The gullwing coupe is powered by the HAMANN 6.1 V12 engine based on the BMW 750i twelve cylinder engine. Its capacity is increased to 6.1 litre using a special crankshaft and bigger pistons. In addition, the cylinder heads are machined and equipped with sports camshafts and bigger inlet and outlet valves. Two high performance air filters with worked out air routing take care of an improved ventilation of the engine. To install the V12 inside the comparatively small engine compartment of the BMW M3, many parts as for instance the stainless-steel made high performance exhaust system including special manifolds and metal-bed catalysts, the engine brackets and the oil sump had to be redesigned. All components get perfectly balanced with the special ECU. Power transmission to the rear wheels is made via a sports clutch, a six-speed manual gearbox with HAMANN SPORT SHIFT gearshift travel shortage and a special rear axle differential with 40 per cent locking rate.
The cockpit of the HAMANN Laguna Seca II has an exclusive equipment: The handmade HAMANN full leather interior is made with love down to the smallest detail. Its colors red and black set a tasteful contrast to the silver color of the bodywork. HAMANN aluminium applications from the pedals over the gearshift lever to panels for the dashboard give the interior an even more individual touch.
