The Mk4 was a complete redesign of the Mk2. It featured the 427 cubic inch Ford engine, but had a revised aluminum chassis and a more aerodynamic body style. In its debut race at the 1967 12 Hours of Sebring it finished in first place driven by Mario Andretti and Bruce McLaren.
The second race for the Mk4 was the 24 Hours of LeMans. The Shelby American Mk4 driven by Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt won the race outright ahead of two Ferraris. The win is known as the "all-American victory" because the car, the engine, the team, and the drivers were all American. Even though this was the Mk4's second race, it was its last race. Rule changes for the 1968 season only allowed an engine displacement of 5 liters.
