The Mk3 was the road version of the Mk1 that was produced in 1966 to homologate the GT40 for the GT class at LeMans. The Mk3 had round headlights instead of the oblong headlights on the Mk1, and the rear of the car was extended to accomodate space for luggage. Other changes included a more useable interior, sound and heat insulation, and softer springs and shocks. The engine used was a 289 cubic inch V8 that produced 306 horsepower. This gave the Mk3 the capability to hit 60 mph in 5.3 seconds and hit a top speed of around 165 mph, very impressive numbers during that time.
