Source: Chevrolet In a long list of enhancements for Chevy's Silverado for 2003, the most exciting was the introduction of an SS model, an expression of contemporary Chevrolet performance. Silverado SS performance is derived from the standard high-output LQ9 version of the Vortec 6000 V-8, delivering 345 horsepower and 380 lbs.-ft. of torque. Accentuating performance is the Silverado SS exhaust system, featuring a single, large 3.5-inch outlet pipe. The result is a throaty NASCAR-inspired roar. Further enhancing performance, as well as vehicle control and handling, are the full-time, all-wheel-drive (AWD), viscous-coupled transfer case and full-locking rear differential - both standard. A unique Z60 High Performance Chassis package, including Silverado's largest-ever, 20-inch tires, provides exceptional road holding and cornering capability and a smooth, comfortable ride. Silverado SS is shod with P275/55R-20 Goodyear Eagle radials mounted on wide 8.5-inch rims. Performance is the key theme to Silverado SS styling. It features an aggressive stance; a monochromatic color-scheme that includes the grille, fascias and lower ground effects; and specially styled aluminum wheels. "Silverado SS" badges accent the front doors and left rear quarter panel. Bodysides are clean, with understated moldings. Sporty five-spoke polished aluminum wheels feature Chevy's emblem in their center cap and the tailgate includes a body-color cap. Updated 07:19 AM - September 05, 2008
