The Z/28 first began in 1967 as an option code for the Camaro. It was meant as a way to qualify the Camaro for the Trans Am racing series which demanded that engine size be less than 305 cubic inches. The Z/28 package offered a special, high-revving 302 engine that pushed out more than its advertised 290 hp and 290 lb-ft torque. Other features included mandatory front disk brakes and a Muncie 4-speed transmission. You could not buy the Z/28 as a convertible, and none came with air conditioning or an automatic transmission. The 1967 Z/28 is a definite collector's item with only 602 being built.
