Source: Brabus Unique high-performance vehicles based on Mercedes-Benz are the specialty of BRABUS. Based on the SL 55 the roadster features a performance-tuned supercharged V8 engine with 550 hp, a maximum torque of 575 lb-ft torque, and an electronically limited top speed of 186 mph. The BRABUS K8 performance kit for the top-of-the-line SL model comprises modifications to the supercharger drive in the form of a custom vibration damper and a new pulley for improved belt- drive geometry, high-performance metal catalysts, and an auxiliary circulation pump with opposing radiator. The power developed by the modified supercharged engine, like the five-speed automatic transmission and the rear differential lubricated exclusively with ARAL high-performance lubricants, is nothing short of exceptional: Instead of standard 476 hp the engine now develops 550 hp at 6,200 rpm. Even more gigantic is the maximum torque of 575 lb-ft torque at just 3,000 rpm. After the power treatment the roadster races to 60 mph just 4.5 seconds, passes 120 mph after exactly 13.6 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed 186 mph. BRABUS aerodynamic enhancement parts for the new SL combine form and function to perfection. The BRABUS front apron with integrated front spoiler was designed to be fastened to the original mounting points, making the exchange for the production bumpers of the SL 500 or SL 55 fast and easy. Customers can choose between two and four auxiliary headlights for better roadway illumination. Even more important though is its aerodynamic effect: At high speeds the apron reduces lift on the front axle thus further improving directional stability. The BRABUS side skirts create an aerodynamic transition between the wheelhouses and come with an exciting and useful feature: Activated by the keyless-entry system or by pulling on the inside door handle three LED lights on the underside of each side sill illuminate the ground next to the car, and thus help to avoid many unfortunate steps into an unseen hole or puddle. The BRABUS designer suit for the new SL is rounded out by the BRABUS rear apron with integrated diffusor. The rear apron is also designed to replace the original part. Just as important for a customized look are one-piece and multi-piece BRABUS Monoblock light-alloy wheels which can be fitted on the roadster in three different designs in 18-, 19- and 20-inch diameters. To be able to make use of the enormous top speed potential offered by the BRABUS-tuned roadster it must be fitted with multi-piece BRABUS Monoblock V or VI wheels in size 9Jx20 in front with 245/35 ZR tires, and 10Jx20 with 285/30 ZR 20 tires on the rear axle. BRABUS recommends high-performance tires from Michelin and Pirelli. To further improve the incredible handling of the new SL BRABUS developed an electronic module for the ABC suspension, which lowers the body by about 15 millimeters. The BRABUS high-performance brake system with vented and perforated mega-discs in size 400 x 36 mm and 12-piston fixed-calipers in front, as well as vented and perforated 360 x 28 mm discs and six-piston fixed-calipers on the rear axle easily masters even the most extreme braking stress. Exclusive, customized luxurious interiors for the SL roadster are a yet another BRABUS specialty. The list of available options includes stainless-steel doorsills with illuminated BRABUS logo, an ergonomically shaped BRABUS sport steering wheel with airbag and heated rim, a speedometer with 360-km/h scale and a genuine carbon interior. To enhance the COMAND system BRABUS offers the integration of a DVD changer. The company-own upholstery shop creates especially exclusive BRABUS interiors from an exclusive combination of especially soft yet durable BRABUS mastik leather and alcantara.
