The New York International Auto Show, which will open its doors to the public April 6-15, has begun its press days during which several vehicles are making their international and North American debuts. A wide range of vehicles are being introduced, including high performance American muscle cars, a track-ready roadster, special edition models from Mercedes-Benz and Nissan, and the latest versions of the Infiniti G coupe and Subaru Impreza WRX.
One of the first introductions came from Ford in the form of the Shelby GT500 KR that marks the 40th anniversary of the original King of the Road. With production billed at only 1000 and 540-horsepower on tap, it will surely be an instant collector’s item, and will perhaps lessen the markup at dealers for the standard GT500. The upgrades over the standard version include a unique carbon fiber hood reminiscent of the original’s back in 1968, a Ford Racing Power Pack that includes revised ignition and throttle calibration as well as a cold air intake, and a retuned suspension.
Other American muscle introduced at the show includes Callaway’s convertible version of the supercharged C16 that was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show back in November, and a limited edition Foose F150 packing 450-horsepower will help fill the gap that the SVT Lightning left when it ended production.
Infiniti launched its all-new G37 Coupe that features a more powerful, 330-horsepower V6 engine that is matched with a retuned 4-wheel independent suspension. Both exterior and interior styling have also been changed with a revised front and rear as well as a new luxurious interior.
Other introductions include a NISMO version of the Nissan 350Z, a track-ready Honda S2000 CR, Subaru’s facelifted WRX, and the Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG Black Series.
