The 77th Geneva International Motor Show, which will be held from March 8 to 18 is possibly the most exciting show of the year so far with an avalanche of premiers and new exhibitors. Bringing together more than 250 exhibitors on a net surface area of nearly 77,000 square metres, the Motor Show will once again be occupying all Geneva Palexpo’s available surface area.
Following the two press days on which more than 5,000 media representatives from all over the world will flock to Palexpo, the Show will open to the public on Thursday, March 8. Around 700,000 visitors are expected from all five continents – generally 40% of them are foreigners from 80 countries – during the 11 days that the Show is open to the public.
Over 80 world and European premiers will be announced, from manufacturers such as Jaguar, Lotus, Opel, Koenigsegg, Pagani, Mini, Lamborghini, audi, Maserati, Aston Martin, and more.
Many of the higher profile automotive brands are launching several new cars, including two race versions of vehicles from Koenigsegg and Pagani. The CCGT from Koenigsegg complies with FIA GT1 regulations and features a non-supercharged V8 with displacement increased from 4.7 to 5.0 liters. Many race fans are looking forward to seeing this car on the race track. The Zonda R from Pagani may not appear in any major racing series, but the car is just as if not more impressive than the CCGT. The car has essentially been created from scratch with a full carbon fiber monocoque, six-speed sequential, and a 750-horsepower V12 from the CLK GTR.
For those with a slightly smaller budget, new performance cars abound, ranging from the new limited edition Lamborghini Superleggera to the Mini Cooper S John Cooper Works. For those interested in something unique, the Lotus 2-Eleven track car and KTM X-Bow will surely provide plenty of weekend fun. Drivers more interested in a comfortable yet sporty daily commute should take a look at the Jaguar XKR Portfolio, Maserati GranTurismo, Bentley Brooklands, and the much-anticipated Audi S5.
