Flying Lizard Motorsports announced today the addition of Wolf Henzler to the team's driver lineup. Henzler will join Johannes van Overbeek in the team's No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, replacing Jon Fogarty.
Henzler's first race with the Lizards will be the American Le Mans Series' Grand Prix of Houston on May 12.
Henzler commented on joining the Lizard squad, "I'm looking forward to running with the Lizards in the American Le Mans Series. … This year at Daytona I had a chance to share a car with Johannes and I am confident we'll make a good team. The Lizards showed their endurance strength this year at Sebring; with such a competitive GT2 field in the American Le Mans Series it's going to make for some spectacular racing."
Henzler, a native of Germany, has been on the professional sports car racing circuit for more than 10 years. For the last six years, he has focused on Porsches in the U.S. and Europe, notably winning in GT the 2005 Rolex 24 at Daytona with Farnbacher Racing and finishing fourth in the 2005 American Le Mans Series GT2 championship with BAM! In 2004, he was Porsche Michelin Supercup champion, second in the Porsche Michelin Carrera Cup, and second in class at the 2004 Petit Le Mans with Alex Job Racing.
Fogarty had driven with the Lizards since 2004. That year he was a guest driver with the team at Sebring, Petit Le Mans, and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. He partnered with van Overbeek for the 2005 season (finishing third in the Series Drivers' championship) and with van Overbeek and Marc Lieb for the 2006 Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in which they finished second in class.
Seth Neiman, Flying Lizard principal and driver added, "Jon will be missed. He made a key contribution to the team's growth while here, and we will always think of him as a Lizard at heart. We wish him the very best with his new drive and his new baby boy."
The next round of the 2006 American Le Mans Series is the Lone Star Grand Prix, scheduled for 8 p.m. CDT on May 12 in Houston. It will be broadcast at 1 p.m. May 13 on CBS Sports, the first of five straight Series events on network television. Qualifying is set for 6:15 p.m. CDT on May 11. American Le Mans Radio will have live coverage at www.americanlemans.com, which also will have IMSA Live Timing & Scoring. | ||||
