Sonoma, Calif. - Following a third-place GT2 finish in the 2005 American Le Mans Series, Flying Lizard Motorsports has announced today that it will return to the Series in 2006 with two Porsches for the GT2 class.
For the third consecutive year, the Sonoma-based privateer team will field two Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs. The team will compete in the entire 10-race American Le Mans Series season, starting with the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in March and finishing in October with the season finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
For the 2006 season, drivers Johannes van Overbeek and Jon Fogarty will again pair up in the team's No. 45 Porsche, looking to best their 2005 result of third place in the class drivers' championship.
The No. 44 sister car will have three drivers. Seth Neiman will be paired for four races with his partner from the last two seasons, Lonnie Pechnik, and for four races with Darren Law. All three will drive together at the two longer races (Sebring and Petit Le Mans). Law ran with the Lizards in the No. 45 car for the full 2004 season and two races in 2005.
The Lizards also welcome a new addition to the team for 2006. Stefan Pfeiffer will join the team for the 2006 season, working with Flying Lizard crew chief Tommy Sadler and chief engineer Craig Watkins. The highly experienced engineer moves to the Lizards after serving as crew chief for Petersen Motorsports/White Lightning Racing during the last two seasons.
"In our first two years of competition, we finished in the top three in the drivers and team championships: second in 2004 and third in 2005. We will do everything in our power in 2006 to fight for the GT2 championship," Sadler said. "This year we'll be bringing back both of our 2005 Porsches. We have about 12 weeks before Sebring to refresh, prep and livery both cars, do some preseason testing, and get the team ready for the season. We're looking forward to being back on track with the ALMS in what should shape up to be a competitive GT2 field again in 2006."
The team is managed by six principals: drivers van Overbeek, Pechnik and Neiman; chief engineer Watkins; crew chief Sadler; and team manager Eric Ingraham. | ||||
