learned of the availability of a souped-up 428 "Cobra Jet" motor, he
decided to drop one into the confines of the GT500's engine compartment
and designate it as the "GT500KR...KR" meaning King of the Road.
With
its conservatively rated 335 horsepower CJ428, this was undoubtedly the
most powerful Shelby available in 1968

Opening the hood reveals a spectacular engine bay featuring the 335 hp CJ428 V8 with all the proper goodies from the stock air cleaner, finned aluminum Cobra valve covers, cabled Autolite battery, ID plate, mounts for the inborn headlamps and all the wiring, plumbing, gas and brake lines. You can follow these lines along the undercarriage as they connect to the gas tank and brakes respectively. Between the 4-speed manual transmission and the orange-painted rear end is a rotating drive shaft.
