Landing Light Performance
I just installed the Aero-lites PAR 36 landing light and checked it's performance this evening. The beam spread seems to be very close to the pattern of the GE4509 bulb I replaced. The light is much whiter than the incandescent 4509. Also the beam length seems to reach further than the 4509. However, the main two reasons for replacing the incandescent bulb is the much reduced amperage and the longer expected life. The 4509 is a 100 watt light which uses very close to 8 amps. The Aero-lite bulb uses only 1.0 amp in my 14 volt aircraft. Less amperage means more power to the propellor and less to the alternator. While the warranty is only 1 year, my experience with LED lights tells me that it will last many times longer than the 25 hr. rated life of the 4509.I just installed the Aero-lites PAR 36 landing light and checked it's performance this evening. Buy a better set and do your reseach on brightness and distance first.
Did not just "drop in fit" as described. Once modifications were made, was disappointed in the amount of light, for the money. Not that big of an improvement, if any. Should have done more research and spent a little more for more LED elements, thus more light. Put them in my backhoe work lights and they are better than non LED. Put regular 25.00 bulbs back in the airplane and can see much farther. Was disappointed in the short distance of the Aero-Lites. Sorry, but should have done more research. Great Light, But not an exact PAR36 Replacement
I'm very happy with the build quality and light output with this bulb. I gave it 4 stars because it isn't and exact PAR36 replacement. For it to fit I needed to grind down the housing's pilot O.D. to match that of the GE4509 it replaced. Overall it seems to be a good value even after I spent the time to modify.

RFI Interference
Not working well for our installation - we see a lot of RFI (radio interference) from these lamps, despite performing a recommended improvement in grounding of the lamps to the airframe at the radio ground. It may work for your installation - it is just too problematic for ours. The lamps fit the airframe fine but the interference on the radio makes them unsuitable for us. Our business works with a lot of LED lighting. When we find interference, it's almost always because the internal driver within the lamp (that converts 14V to the lower voltage used by the LEDs) is insufficiently designed to suppress RFI.
