If you are looking for a CheapUPGRADE this turbo will support 500RWHP and will bolt on to any 6.0L Power Stroke Pedestal. When used on a 2004.5-2010 model you will have to leave the rearmost bolt out. (We have been doing this for years)
The product being offered through Ford Dealers is a rebuilt turbocharger. While it is labeled as a remanufactured product, technically it is not. A remanufactured product, by definition, is brought back to original equipment standards. The supplier of these units to the Ford network is not Garrett. Further, there have been several instances that demonstrate the inferior nature of this and other rebuilt products. These things include daily calls received by Garrett/Honeywell from vehicle owners complaining of the repeat and/or premature failures of this product. Analyses of several rebuilt units have found numerous faults, mainly with the VNT mechanism due to the relative lack of general industry knowledge regarding this device and its suitability for reuse by specific application. The operating conditions of the 6.0 liter engine cause the turbo VNT mechanism to be completely worn out by approximately 125K miles.
Also in these analyses micro cracks in compressor wheels are being found because too many rebuilders are over-salvaging parts to help lower costs. This will cause premature compressor failure from cycle fatigue. A new Garrett 6.0 liter turbocharger contains all of the engineering advancements made to improve the life of the product. Rebuilt units do not have these very important features that contribute directly to the proper operation of the VNT mechanism.
