Effect:

The belt drive for the supercharger (Mercedes-Benz calls it a Kompressor) was poorly designed to begin with. With a tuned (modded) engine that has a different (smaller) supercharger pulley ratio (bigger crank shaft pulley and/or smaller supercharger pulley) the belt slip increases significantly. The reason for that is simple, the angle of contact of the supercharger pulley. Slippage causes a faster deterioration of the belt and less power can be produced due to the slippage which means less rotational force inside the supercharger equals less compressed air for the engine. Often a squeaky noise can be heard from the high rate of slippage of the belt on the supercharger pulley.

If you have replaced your stock supercharger pulley with a smaller one your angle of contact has even more decreased. The remedy is here: Our belt wrap kit, with its additional idler pulley, increased the angle of contact significantly on the supercharger pulley.

Don’t fall for these ill designed Chinese ones. Don\'t do this to your engine. A poor design adds additional force on the screw of the double idler pulley. Additional shear strain can cause one or more screws to break. The screw holding the double idler pulley is already borderline and should not become even more loaded with additional force. If you have to replace one or both of the serpentine belts, tools are needed to remove the belt wrap kit first.
