The Porsche 911 Cabriolet has two hydraulic actuators thatraise and lower the convertible top. The internal rod seals of these actuatorsare composed of polyurethane, which has a 5-year shelf life—at best. Putpolyurethane seals into a vehicle that’s exposed to all sorts of environmentalconditions—and it’s a wonder the seals last as long as they do.
As these seals deteriorate, the actuators begin to leak.This problem will reveal itself in one of two ways: The top will be slow toraise and lower, as the system can’t develop adequate pressure. Or, the topwon’t raise or lower at all, once the hydraulic pump fluid level falls below acertain point.

- Helpful thread on how to rebuild the Regarding the potentiometer: I learned and saw the potentiometer hanging down near the hydraulic cylinder on the left (drivers) side. The hydraulic cylinder bolts at both ends, but MUST have the 'knob' midway on the cylinder in the groove on the outboard side of the cylinder. The potentiometer arm must be positioned between the cylinder and that groove. The potentiometer arm is a slotted thin metal bar that slides as the top in raised and lowered and controls the positioning of the top and its components. - user mandep1432
