These are an ALL NEW propitiatorycasting by by EMPI to handle extreme performance Air cooled VWs. They cast from a high quality all aluminum alloy and machined on a 5 axis CNC mill.They are fashionedafter the iconic 041 heads that originally came out as performance heads for VWs but beefed up in all the right areas. They are one of the best additions you can add to any stock or modified 1500 or larger VW engine.
-The amount of material around the intake and exhaust port areas is substantiallythicker than normal castings. This allows for extensive porting without concern over cracks developing. LOOK CLOSELY AT THE PHOTOS OF THE AREA AROUND THE INTAKE AND EXHAUSTPORT AND COMPARE THEM TO OTHER HEADS.
-These heads are the base for EMPI\'s new line of extremeperformance heads. THE PORTS ARE ALREADY CAST 20% LARGERTHAN STOCK.
-Oversize40 x 35.5 stainless valves with bronze valve guides andsingle springs plus a 3/4\" plug reach. Chromoly retainers and hardened keepers Easily flycut to 90.5, 92 or 94 mm because of the quality heavy casting. The valves are stainless steelwith aperformancevalve grind. They include single high rev valve springs. The combustion chamber is 58 cc.

The largeFLOW BENCH DESIGNED portsand LARGE VALVESare absolutely one of the best ways to get power out of your engine. The exhaust air passages are cleared for proper cooling and the heads are WELDABLE.This is a NEW aluminum casting dual port head withoversized 35.5 exhaust x 40 intake valves and hardened keepers.They are a stock 85.5 mm bore. BE VERY CAUTIOUS about buying rebuilt or WELDED heads or those where the bare casting is imported and assembled domestically. The quality of those rebuilt or no-name brand types of heads can often be substandard to say the least.
These heads will fit any year of a VW Type 1 engine that is or will be a 1500, 1600 or 1641 (85.5 bore). However theycan be bored out to 87, 90.5, 92 and 94 mm. We do not do head boring at our shop except for local customers. Any reputable VW shop should be able to help you with that service should you so desire. The application chart only shows those vehicles that originally came with dual port heads stock. The photo(s) may very slightly from the actual product you receive.

The sites listed below are common failure locations for stock heads and especially for heads that have been modified or ported. This set of GTV-2 racing heads is cast heavier in those weak areas and is made of a special aluminum alloy for superior strength.
1. Spark Plug Holes - Check your spark plug holes for cracks as these areas see some of the most heat in a VW engine.2. Between valves - Often heads will be cracked right between the valves in cylinder. The crack often runs horizontally between the valves.3. Behind the valves - When rebuilding a set of VW Type 1 cylinder heads it is always a good idea to remove the valves and inspect for cracks behind them and around valve seats.
