If you own a convertible BMW, you will eventually have top problems. Last thing you want is to be out one night and your top becomes stuck in the half open position.
If you haven\'t already heard a loud knocking sound coming from under the back seat, you will. The noise is a metal gear that pulls down the top and locks it in place. If the process doesn\'t occur flawlessly from beginning to end, the top will stop in whatever position it is in and you will either tow the vehicle or follow a rigorous procedure to manually close the top.
The problem is in the design of the motor components. The cover of the motor that is located just under the hump of the back seat is made of plastic and it WILL fail. If you hear popping, immediately stop and do not use the vehicle until my part is installed. The gear will strip and you will be forced to purchase a complete motor assembly.
Online fixes include wooden pins with large hose clamps to industrial glue. Both will eventually fail or burn out the motor from too much pressure. BMW will not sell you the cover, they will charge you $500 for a new motor assembly.
I\'m offering you a US made aluminum cover which I designed that can easily be installed and you will never have an issue with that particular unit again.
My part is warranted for life if installed properly.
