BACK IN 2005, SALEEN HAD A CLEAR OUT SALE ON SOME PARTS AT THE SALEEN SHOW THAT YEAR AND WE BOUGHT A BOX OF MISC SALEEN PARTS OUT OF THE BACK PART OF THE WHARE HOUSE/PARTS DEPARTMENT AND IN THE BOX WERE SOME OF THESE UNUSED UNIQUE K&N FILTERS WHICH WE ARE OFFERING HERE FOR ACQUIRED FROM LONG AGO. The Saleen Employee at that time who we purchase stuff from made mention that this Specific Type of High Performance Air Filter was a proposed Filter to be used in conjunction with the Carbon Fiber upgrade option offered onthe 2002-04 Saleen S281E Mustangs ONLY. We are not sure if that was ever implemented by Saleen on those Specific Saleen Extreme cars for those years that came equipped with that option from that time era or not, have no proof of those details, just was repeating what was told to us long ago.
This K&N High Performance Air Filter is an Exact same size, shape dimensions and design-minus top part as the SALEEN (Script at Top Air Filter-See last few pictures-SALEEN SCRIPT FILTER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE sale HERE AND WAS ONLY USED AS A REFERENCE TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA THAT ITS THE SAME SIZE/DIMENSIONS).
This Direct Replacement K&N High Flow Performance Air Filter is Exactly the same size and dimensions as the typical SALEEN K&N Air Filter that came Equipped ONLY THE 2002-2004 SALEEN S281E (EXTREME) MUSTANGS. This SPECIFIC TYPE OF AIR FILTER CAN ONLY BE USED ON THE 2002-2004 SALEEN S281 EXTREME MUSTANGS WHICH ALL HAD THE FILTER LOCATED IN THE PASSENGER FRONT SIDE OF THE FENDER WELL FOR BETTER AIR FLOW MANAGEMENT ALLOWING FOR BETTER FLOW INTO THE SUPERCHARGER DUE TO IT\'S COOLER OUT OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT LOCATION AND LARGE DIAMETER 4\" OPENING TO ATTACH TO STOCK CAI TUBE. (SEE LAST PICTURE USED AS AN EXAMPLE OF THE 2002-04 SALEEN EXTREME ENGINE COMPARTMENT)
This 173-100 Air FilterDimensions are appox. 6 7/8\" height X 4 1/2\" Air Filter End Diameter x 5 3/4\" base diameter with LARGE 4\" Opening to Cold Air Intake tube or MAF and is a Conical Round Tapered Design shape Reusable High Performance High Flow Air Filter. The end of it is very unique in that it has the simulated Carbon Fiber Top End. We called K&N many years back inquiring about this specific filter and they told us it had not been produced in this type for many years, but at the time retailed for $59.99 with the top end like this one has.
So, if you are a 2002, 2003 or 2004 Saleen S281E (Extreme) Mustang Owner out there, you may have some interest in this Unique Filter here that we bought long ago from Saleen.
